ACORN to Partner With Government for 2010 Census

We are so very Fucked, and I did not enjoy it in the least.

By: Dave Eberhart
The Association of Community Organizations for Reform (ACORN) is now a “national partner” with the U.S. Census Bureau, soon to help the White House find 1.4 million workers to canvass for the country’s 2010 census.

If the acronym rings a bell, it’s because the organization has a history of voter fraud charges in the last election cycle, according to a report by FOXNews.com.

ACORN will be joining with more than 250 national partners, including TARGET and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), to assist in the hiring of census workers around the country.

ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson told FOXNews.com, “ACORN as an organization has not been charged with any crime,” adding that concerns that the organization will unfairly influence the census are unfounded.

The U.S. Census Bureau has also gone on the defensive.

They should have to defend the decision to move the national census from the Census Bureau to control by the White House. When they begin the Gerrymandering, watch Republican districts all but vanish. This is an Obama, Emanuel move to keep the Democrats in power for generations. With these people in power, this great country will not last a generation.

When you put the clowns in charge, don’t be surprised when a circus breaks out. (Unknown but correct)

A tired American Veteran

8:59 am in Bailout, Democrats, Economy, Fairness Doctrine, Freedom, Hollywood, National, Obama, Opinion, Politics, Stimulus by skyzot63

This Gentleman snuck inside my head, he articulates my feelings perfectly. I was very close to being a millionaire once, divorce took care of that dream, someone else became one on my work. Up until cancer and the physical ramifications of that made it impossible for me to continue working at age sixty eight, I worked hard my entire life. It started with me working two jobs while in high school. I had every  intension of working until at least seventy if not longer.

I’m Tired" by Robert A. Hall
I’ll be 63 soon.  Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce, and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I’ve worked, hard, since I was 18.  Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven’t called in sick in seven or eight years.

I make a good salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am.  Given the economy, there’s no retirement in sight, and I’m tired.  Very tired.
I’m tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth around" to people who don’t have my work ethic.  I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy or stupid to earn it.

I’m tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes.”  Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I’m willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them-with their own money.

I’m tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros, and  Hollywood  entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities  America  offers.  In thirty years, if they get their way, the  United States will have the religious freedom and women’s rights of  Saudi Arabia , the economy of Zimbabwe, the freedom of the press of  China , the crime, and violence of  Mexico, the tolerance for Gay people of  Iran , and the freedom of speech of  Venezuela .  Won’t multiculturalism be beautiful?

I’m tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor;" of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they a aren’t "believers;" of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery;" of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to.
I believe "a man should be judged by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin."  I’m tired of being told that "race doesn’t matter" in the post-racial world of President Obama, when it’s all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of US Senators from Illinois.  I think it’s very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation.  I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less in an all-knowing government.

I’m tired of a news media that thinks Bush’s fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama’s, at triple the cost, were wonderful.  That thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress, that picked over every line of Bush’s military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his, that slammed Palin with two years as governor for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News?  Get a clue.  I didn’t vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I’m tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America, while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue, or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.  My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs.  We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live.  Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore’s, and if you’re greener than Gore, you’re green enough.

I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do.  Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off?  I don’t t hink Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs.  And I’m tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I’m tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren’t working, but are living on welfare or crime.  What’s next?  Calling drug dealers, Undocumented Pharmacists"?  And, no, I’m not against Hispanics.  Most of them are Catholic and it’s been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion.  I’m willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn’t have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military.  Those are the citizens we need.

I’m tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military.  They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people then themselves.  Do bad things happen in war?  You bet.  Do our troops sometimes misbehave?  Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years-and still are?  Not even close.  So here’s the deal.  I’ll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we’ll compare notes.  British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I’m tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption.  Read the papers-bums are bipartisan.  And I’m tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship.  I live in  Illinois , where the "Illinois Combine" of Democrats and Republicans has worked together harmoniously to loot the public for years.  And I notice that the tax cheats in Obama’s cabinet are bipartisan as well.

I’m tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers, and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught.  I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.
Speaking of poor, I’m tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn’t have that in 1970, but we didn’t know we were "poor.”  The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I’m real tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions.  I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I’m damn tired.  But I’m also glad to be 63.  Because, mostly, I’m not going to get to see the world these people are making.  I’m just sorry for my granddaughter.

Now Obama Tells Us?
What an honest campaign would have sounded like.
By Victor Davis Hanson

Imagine that last fall, before being elected, Barack Obama had outlined the positions he has embraced since being inaugurated. An honest campaign speech could have gone something like this:
“As we approach Election Day, the American people should not waste the crisis we find ourselves in.
“Consequently, if elected, I promise to get us over the Bush financial meltdown with a stimulus program that will borrow $787 billion — which, of course, will add to the already sizable budget deficit (nearly $500 billion) projected in the Bush administration’s last budget.
“By March of next year, my new $3.6 trillion budget will include a spending bill with over 8,500 budget earmarks to target in-need constituents.

“In addition to the stimulus/borrowing plan, I intend to devote $634 billion to fund a new supplementary national health-care system. But that is not all. Unfortunately, the initial Bush bank bailout of some $700 billion also may well have to be augmented by an additional $750 billion.
“Although my new spending proposals may raise the federal deficit in my first year to $1.75 trillion, I promise the American people that by the end of my first term, I will halve the federal deficit — albeit adding another $3 to $5 trillion to the national debt.
“Those savings can be accomplished by upping the federal income tax to about 40 percent on those rich 5 percent of Americans who currently pay only 60 percent of our aggregate income taxes — as well as lifting Social Security caps on their payroll taxes and cutting out many of their tax deductions.
“With state income taxes, federal income tax, and Social Security and payroll taxes, along with new cutbacks in deductions, some of these rich will pay over 60 percent of their incomes in taxes. That is not an unreasonable rate in comparison with past levels — or the fact that well over 40 percent of Americans do not make enough to pay any federal income taxes.
“I expect that Wall Street may react negatively to these proposals. We may see the Dow fall an additional 2,000 to 3,000 points after I’m elected. It may descend to under 7,000 during my first weeks of office. And this may be the moment when the economy continues to cool and unemployment rises.
“But to deal with this reaction of entrenched interests, I promise a fresh team of hard-nosed American professionals — understanding that it is impossible to ensure that none have past insider connections and occasional tax problems.
“From the former Clinton administration, I will select Rahm Emanuel to run my staff. To oversee revenue, Timothy Geithner will assemble a large team at Treasury. Senator Clinton herself will run State, and I will anchor my cabinet with pros like Tom Daschle, Eric Holder, Bill Richardson, and Hilda Solis.
“On matters of protecting civil liberties, I assure the American people that I have examined the Patriot Act, the FISA accords, and renditions — and I have discovered that they, in fact, do not shred our Constitution. I will, however, shut down Guantanamo Bay — but must keep it open another year and appoint a task force to study the issue.
“Our new direction in energy policy will center on cap-and-trade initiatives that promote wind and solar power. While we won’t rule out oil, gas, coal, and nuclear development, problems with greenhouse-gas emissions and nuclear waste mean that these ossified 20th-century industries — including new offshore-drilling development — must be discouraged and further taxed or regulated to subsidize our green future.
“Abroad, I promise to give America a new image. My first television interview will be with al Arabiya. Due to both new initiatives and my unique background, I can reassure them that no longer will the United States alienate the Muslim world. Our aim is to return to stable and friendly relations with the Middle East characteristic of 20-30 years ago.
“Indeed, on matters in the Middle East, I will bring back my suspended adviser Samantha Power. I look forward to her input, along with that of Charles Freeman, former ambassador to Saudi Arabia and critic of Israel, as head of the National Intelligence Council, to craft new directions in the region.
“We expect to open new dialogues with Basher al-Assad of Syria and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran without preconditions. And to further the cause of peace in the Middle East, the United States will pledge almost $1 billion to help rebuild the Gaza strip that is governed by Hamas.”
Now all that would have been hope and change that we could have voted on.

The more we learn, the more frightened I become for our country

10:59 am in Demoncrats, Economy, National, Obama, Opinion, Politics, Stimulus by skyzot63

From Capitalism Magazine: Obama’s Plans Will ‘Work’ — To Breed Servile Dependence by Richard Salsman.

Oddly, these [conservative] “critics” [of Obama's economic policies] bestow undeserved compliments on their political opponents – and thus provide them with crucial political cover. By implicitly praising their enemy’s underlying motives, these critics effectively shield them from justified criticism. The critics who argue this way – including Rush Limbaugh – unwittingly carry water for President Obama. By insisting the schemes “won’t work,” the “critics” mean they won’t work to grow the economy – won’t revive the stock market – won’t fix the banks – won’t attract capitalists on strike – won’t bolster job creation – and won’t lift the poor out of poverty. Well, all that’s true, but it’s false to assume the Obama administration actually wants to achieve these things.

In fact, it wants no such thing.

It has other ideas — a wholly opposite aim.

Besides a desire for re-election, shared by all politicians, at root the Obama Administration wants individuals and firms to become more dependent on government. That requires not merely a more intensive redistribution of wealth to the needy (whether needy people or needy firms), but also programs and plans that might proliferate the ranks of the needy, even if that requires turning otherwise healthy people and firms into unhealthy, needy ones.

Mr. Salsman is exactly right. Mr. Obama does want to convert te entire country, people and businesses into welfare dependent Zombies. An outrageous sized government. Take a look at the banks, financial institutions and the auto companies. They are now under government scrutiny with possible punishment if they don’t toe the line.

Private citizens will not be far behind. Tucked way down deep in that porkulus bill was an amendment to give the IRS a lot more power. The right to privacy is a thing of the past.

The country is upside down, all brought to you by a Chicago Community Organizer. All the libs and the Demoncrats in Washington are singing Koom-Ba-Ya with the Dead Cat Bounce the stock market is going through. It goes up a couple hundred points over a five day period and they think the recession is over. If you don’t mind, I am going to continue to protect my money until I see what happens when the bill comes due on all this spending. For cripes sake he is pushing through a three and one half trillion dollar budget. It looks like it is on the fast track and the Republicans wont even be able to block it. I’m watching that idiot Robert Gibbs in the endless press conferences, they are using smoke and mirrors. Getting people to concentrate on getting back the money AIG paid out in bonuses which were contracted well before the bail out money was doled out. It was only 163 million dollars, we are supposed to ignore the 170 billion dollars they received in the bailout, how much of that money did they use to shore up the business? The answer is easy, I don’t need a calculator, NONE. They shuffled it off to other banks. I should put a bank sign in front of my house, I’ll call it (Poor Man’s Bank)

This all makes me sick

Conservative talk radio on the wane in California?????

The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of conservative broadcasters.

By Michael Finnegan
March 15, 2009

Tune in to conservative talk radio in California, and the insults quickly fly. Capturing the angry mood of listeners the other day, a popular host in Los Angeles called Republican lawmakers who voted to raise state taxes "a bunch of weak slobs."
With their trademark ferocity, radio stars who helped engineer Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s rise in the 2003 recall have turned on him over the new tax increases. On stations up and down the state, they are chattering away in hopes of igniting a taxpayers’ revolt to kill his budget measures on the May 19 ballot.

We will be out in force Dipwad. You should actually listen to conservative talk radio before you declare it dead in California. Take a look at the photo right below, he is more popular than ever after the kefluffle with idiots in and around the White House.

But for all the anti-tax swagger and the occasional stunts by personalities like KFI’s John and Ken, the reality is that conservative talk radio in California is on the wane. The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of conservative broadcasters.
For that and other reasons, stations have dropped the shows of at least half a dozen radio personalities and scaled back others, in some cases replacing them with cheaper nationally syndicated programs.
Casualties include Mark Larson in San Diego, Larry Elder and John Ziegler in Los Angeles, Melanie Morgan in San Francisco, and Phil Cowen and Mark Williams in Sacramento.

The loss of Melanie Morgan was sad and I think a mistake of Clear Channel, but if anyone thinks she is gone and out of the game is smoking funny stuff. She is still very active with Move America Forward and she is filling in for Officer Vic this coming week on  the Lee Rodgers show on KSFO. So she is still around and feisty as ever. She can strip a liberal down to bare bones almost as good as Ann Coulter.

Two of the biggest in the business, Roger Hedgecock in San Diego and Tom Sullivan in Sacramento, have switched to national shows, elevating President Obama above Schwarzenegger on their target lists.
Another influential Sacramento host, Eric Hogue, has lost the morning rush-hour show that served as a prime forum to gin up support for the recall of Gov. Gray Davis. Now he airs just an hour a day at lunchtime on KTKZ-AM (1380).
"It’s lonely, it’s quiet, and it’s a shame," Hogue said of California’s shrinking conservative radio world. "I think this state has lost a lot of benefit. I don’t know if we can grow it back any time soon."

Talk radio hosts move around, come and go. If they leave one station, they will likely show up on some other one. Now if you walk down the hall at KSFO to the liberal counter part KGO 81 a giant 50K watt station with fifty or so listeners. Their main problem is some of the hosts like kiddy porn and then end up dead by health problems. Perhaps if they would maintain a healthy mind and life style they would do better. Oh, never mind that because then they would not be liberals.

Still, in a state that Obama won handily in November, a decisive conservative push-back against the tax-spend-and-borrow ballot measures is far from certain. The older white Republicans who tend to listen to conservative radio are a shrinking portion of the state’s voters.
It’s also no sure bet that the radio shows are converting listeners who might disagree with their agenda.

This guy doesn’t know a true conservative, we are not shrinking, if anything we are growing. Who was it who said “If at age 20, you are not a liberal, you have no heart. At age 40, if you are not a conservative, you have no brain."? That could not be more true today, watching the floundering fools in Washington and Sacramento where way too many Pubbies have jumped the shark and gone to the dark side on so many levels.

Now I know that Liberals are basically stupid, but I kinda expect Pubbies to be a bit smarter. The ones in DC and Sackatomatoes are for the most part letting me down.

"All these people are going to vote the conservative line anyway, or they wouldn’t be listening to those shows," said Jim Nygren, a Republican strategist.
Conservative radio reached its peak in California in 2003, when stations prodded listeners to sign petitions for an election to recall Davis, then drummed up GOP support for Schwarzenegger as his replacement.
Since then, it has been a favorite ad vehicle for Republican candidates and causes, such as Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage last November.
Leading the charge against Proposition 1A are John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou, whose afternoon drive-time show on Los Angeles’ KFI-AM (640) draws 670,000 listeners a week, according to the Arbitron ratings agency. That makes them the most popular conservative talk radio hosts in the state.
Day after day, they pound Schwarzenegger and the Republican lawmakers who joined Democrats in approving the tax increases. They are encouraging recall drives against the legislators. Their website features pictures of the governor and the lawmakers — with their severed heads on sticks.

Heads on sticks? OK but let’s call them what they are “Pikes”. The more I read, the more this guy proves that he is a liberal moron.

"They’re all pretty shaken up by it," said Nygren, who counts some of the lawmakers as clients.
Last week, John and Ken urged listeners to show up with tax-revolt signs "outside Octomom’s house," taking advantage of the media presence surrounding Nadya Suleman, the Whittier mother of octuplets.
"It’s guerrilla warfare," one of the hosts said.
Many of the others on California’s conservative radio circuit are less belligerent. "It doesn’t need to be ranting and raving all the time," Hedgecock said.
And apart from KFI, whose morning show with Bill Handel draws 652,000 listeners a week, the California shows are far less popular. The only hosts of conservative programs with a weekly audience of more than 100,000 are Doug McIntyre of KABC (790) in Los Angeles, Lee Rodgers of KSFO (560) in San Francisco and Rick Roberts of KFMB (760) in San Diego.

"The content is the same," said Hogue, "but it doesn’t have the reach it once did. There are major players gone."

How did he compile these numbers? Possibly an internet poll at Daily Kos or Huffpo

A letter to the temporary resident of The White House

6:37 am in Demoncrats, National, Obama, Opinion, Politics by skyzot63

I sent this to info@obama.com this morning, not expecting a response. I was not surprised with the one I got below.

As a Legal Citizen, Born American, Veteran, Senior Citizen I am appalled at what I am seeing and hearing every day.
This is not and never will be France. If you and your administration wish to live in a Socialist country, that is your choice.

I think flights leave about every half hour.
I understand that none of you freaks will read this, but I feel better having said it.

Name and addy removed.

Life Long Conservative

Palin/Jidell 2012

This is the automated response I received a few minutes ago:

Dear Friend,

remain active in your community and involved in national policy debates. Please continue to visit http://www.BarackObama.com regularly. If you have specific questions or concerns, you can call Organizing for America toll-free at 1-877-922-4264.
President Obama and Vice-President Biden are hopeful about the opportunities and direct about the challenges our nation faces.
They look forward to working alongside Organizing for America and with all Americans, regardless of who they voted for, in the great project of American renewal.

To learn more about the Obama administration’s plans to bring change to America, and how you can get involved in the work ahead, please visit http://www.whitehouse.gov.
We’ve built one of the most comprehensive nationwide organizing networks in history, and our victory on November 4th is only the beginning of the work we’ll do together.

Due to the extremely large number of email messages we’re currently receiving, we may be unable to respond to your message individually, but we do appreciate hearing from you and hope you’ll work with us as we build America’s future together.

Thank you again for contacting us.

Sincerely,
Organizing for America

This Ass Hat is treating this country like the community he organized back in Chicago, more than likely doing the same skimming off the top too.
Yes he is bringing change to America, but I’m not liking the changes I am seeing. I have a feeling that Organizing for America is a code word for Acorn. I personally think he should pack up and take him, his family and his entire administration back to Chicago.
They will fit right in with the rest of the criminals.
Now I’m wondering which will get here first the IRS or the secret service.

As a conservative, I am insulted and mad as hell about the junior highschool gamesthat this administration is playing.

That ignorant asshole Gibbs stands up there and proclaims that he is having fun, making fun of Rush and other conservatives. Wake up Dip shit!! There is not one damned thing funny about what you and your Fuckin’ Boss is doing to the economy and this country.

It has taken O’Reilly a long time to see the light and make the connections, He used to pooh-pooh some of this and the work behind the scenes with Soros and team using the internet in various ways/groups which would include the msm, especially msnbc to carry their water. I am pleased to see him open his eyes. He, Rush, Levin, Hannity and many others are on the same team. We all want to save America

I guess old “Hair plugs” Biden was right about The One being tested within the first six months after the Coronation. First we have the suck-up offer The One made to Putin’s current butt boy, president or what ever the hell they call him, to scrap the missile defense system being deployed in the eastern part of Europe. In exchange for Russia putting pressure on Iran to drop the quest for Nukes. Putin, through his butt boy said, I paraphrase here “Dumping the missile defense deployment we will accept, the Nuke thingy, not so much!” In other words The One was shucked and jived by the Russians. Mr. 0bama, I’m sorry I cannot bring myself to refer to him as The President, he is a temporary resident in OUR HOUSE, is an incompetent fool . How long it takes for the Real Americans to see through his sham of an administration, he will still have the sick, rabid support of the extreme far left but I think it is just a matter of time for the majority of people to wake up. The governments of other countries can see what a bunch of pussies his administration are. He and his policies are putting us in very grave danger.

Next we have The Chinese wanting in on the party:

From The U. S. Department of Defense:

By Jim Garamone
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, March 9, 2009 – Five Chinese vessels shadowed and aggressively maneuvered close to the USNS Impeccable in the South China Sea yesterday, a senior Pentagon official said today.

The U.S. oceanographic ship was 70 miles south of Hainan Island conducting routine operations in international waters when the ships approached, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said.

“We view these as unprofessional maneuvers by the Chinese vessels and violations under international law to operate with due regard for the rights and safety of other lawful users of the ocean,” Whitman said.

A civilian crew mans the ship, which operates under the auspices of the Military Sealift Command.

The incident began as the ships surrounded the Impeccable and two craft closed to within 50 feet, Whitman said. The Chinese ships included a Chinese navy intelligence collection ship, a Bureau of Maritime Fisheries patrol vessel, a State Oceanographic Administration patrol vessel and two small Chinese-flagged trawlers.

Crewmen aboard the Impeccable used fire hoses to spray one of the vessels as a protective measure. The Chinese crewmembers disrobed to their underwear and continued closing to within 25 feet.

The Chinese vessels dropped pieces of wood in the water directly in the Impeccable’s path, and two of the ships stopped directly in the U.S. vessel’s path, forcing it to stop.

Whitman said the Chinese used poles in an attempt to snag the Impeccable’s towed acoustic array sonars. Impeccable’s master used bridge-to-bridge radio circuits to inform the Chinese ships in a friendly manner that it was leaving the area and requested a safe path to navigate.

“These are dangerous close maneuvers that these vessels engaged in,” Whitman said.

The incident was the culmination of earlier harassment. A Chinese patrol vessel shined a high-intensity spotlight March 4 on the USNS Victorious operating in the Yellow Sea 125 miles from China’s coast. Chinese maritime aircraft “buzzed” the ship 12 times March 5.

A Chinese frigate crossed the bow of the Impeccable at a range of about 100 yards March 5. Maritime aircraft buzzed the ship after that incident.

Another Chinese ship challenged Impeccable over bridge-to-bridge radio March 7, calling its operations illegal and directing the American ship to leave the area or “suffer the consequences,” officials said.

The Impeccable is one of six surveillance ships that gather underwater acoustical data, Whitman said. U.S. ships routinely operate in the area.

“We expect Chinese ships to act responsibly and refrain from provocative activities that could lead to miscalculation or a collision at sea, endangering vessels and the lives of U.S. and Chinese mariners,” a Defense Department official said.

U.S. embassy officials lodged a protest against these actions with the Foreign Ministry in China, and Defense Department officials have protested with the Chinese embassy here.
